Dr Amanda Stevenson
Clinical Psychologist
“My approach is all about creating a space where you feel safe, supported, and heard. I believe therapy works best when it’s a collaborative process – where we work together at a pace that feels right for you and you always have a choice of what we do and where we explore. I show up with warmth, compassion and curiosity to understand your experiences and circumstances. As an experienced therapist of over 10 years’ qualification, I am skilled in a broad range of evidence-based therapies. We will discuss together which model or approach would best fit your needs and goals. This may mean a mix of therapeutic approaches which will be tailored to you and which we will review regularly together”.
I have more than 10 years of experience working with adults and older adults in community mental health teams, mental health inpatient wards, care homes and hospitals in the NHS. Currently I am a Senior Clinical Psychologist in an NHS community mental health team for older adults. I work with a broad range of mental health and psychological difficulties.
I have a special clinical interest in working with psychological trauma, both therapeutically and in the promotion of trauma informed care more broadly across services and organisations. I have worked nationally to contribute to the development of specialist trauma training and I am deeply committed to helping to grow a more trauma informed workforce across Scotland. I am also passionate about psychological care for older people and have worked extensively with age related emotional, physical and cognitive difficulties as well as supporting clients with dementia and their carers.
