Dr Aleksandar Ampovski
Counselling Psychologist
“I always aim to foster a therapeutic environment grounded in acceptance, non-judgement and compassion. In my practice, I aim to make the process of therapy accessible and empowering, whist collaborating with you at each step of your therapeutic journey, viewing both of us at the “active ingredients” of therapy.
Holding a pluralistic philosophy and practice stance, I emphasise both your goals and the evidence-base, as we collaboratively make sense of your current difficulties and tailor the therapeutic plan to your current context. As opposed to a one-size-fits-all perspective, I am aware that therapeutic modalities and interventions can be helpful at different times and can also depend on your current goals for therapy. I also seek to learn about and incorporate your preferences in the therapeutic process, emphasising your agency in your therapeutic journey.“
I have been in clinical practice since 2019 and during those years have experience working with a diversity of mental health difficulties, ranging in severity, experienced by young adults, adults and older adults. I have provided therapy in a variety of mental health contexts, one of which being a trauma focused mental health charity service, where I supported individuals experiencing difficulties including but not limited to, trauma, anxiety presentations, self-esteem and depression. I have also been a part of a university counselling service where I supported university students, and worked with difficulties such as panic disorder, anxiety presentations, self-esteem and depression amongst others. My experience has also included working in an NHS and Occupational Health context where some of the main mental health difficulties I worked with included trauma, interpersonal difficulties, work-related stress, burnout and chronic health difficulties. Most recently, I have also worked in private practice, where I offered therapy to individuals experiencing challenges with grief and bereavement, stress management, obsessive compulsive disorder and others.
Alongside my role as Counselling Psychologist in Shore Psychology, I also work as a tutor at an HCPC and BPS accredited University for the Counselling Psychology Doctorate.
