Karen Dunbar (She/Her)
Neurodevelopmental Nurse Specialist
The heart of my work is grounded in my core values of respect, integrity, inclusion, and kindness. I believe no two people experience neurodivergence in the same way, which is why I prioritise listening, understanding and building a genuine connection. Each assessment is shaped around the individual and creating a space where they feel safe to share their stories, experiences, strengths, challenges and what matters to them most. I bring a personal understanding of the realities of living alongside and supporting neurodivergent family members navigating education, work, relationships and everyday life.
It is a privilege to draw on over 25 years of experience as a Registered Mental Health & Paediatric Nurse in supporting children, young people, and adults across a range of clinical and community settings. I have worked closely with individuals and families experiencing mental health adversity and neurodevelopmental differences with a particular focus on ADHD and Autism. In addition to my role at Shore, I currently work as an Independent ADHD Nurse Prescriber initiating and reviewing pharmacological intervention for treatment of ADHD across the lifespan.
